Every good story has a beginning. The funny thing is, most people don’t recognize it when they’re standing in it.
For Corinne, the beginning didn’t look like a love story.
It looked like Jacksonville Beach.
She had only been living there for ten months, happily riding out the final years of her twenties with no grand plans, no checklist, and no intention of seriously meeting anyone. She was enjoying figuring out her own rhythm, and looking forward to the simple things—good friends, good laughs, and a life without unnecessary complications.
Then came the roommate.
Finding another single friend to share life with felt like a small victory. What Corinne didn’t know was that this new friendship would quietly become the doorway to the most important person she’d ever meet.
Her name was Ashlyn.
And Ashlyn has a way of bringing people together.
Nights out with Ashlyn quickly became a regular part of Corinne’s routine. Somewhere between conversations, laughter, and the kind of nights that start with “we’ll only stay for one drink” and end with stories that get better every time they’re retold, another person entered the picture: Conner.
Conner was roommates with a guy named Rob.
And Conner was convinced that Corinne and Rob needed to meet.
He had learned that Corinne appreciated the important things in life: a cold beer, a classic rock song, good conversation, and most importantly—no drama. Apparently, this was enough evidence for Conner to decide he had found Rob’s perfect match.
One night at Monkey’s Uncle, a classic Jacksonville Beach dive where countless stories have started and very few have gone exactly as planned, Robert Owen was there.
Corinne had heard this was the night she would finally meet Rob. She didn’t know she was about to meet someone who would become her best friend, her adventure partner, and eventually her husband.
The introduction was simple.
“Hi, I’m Rob.”
“Hi, I’m Corinne.”
And somehow, that was enough.
They immediately clicked. The conversation came naturally, the kind where neither person is checking the time because they don’t want the night to end.
Over the months that followed, friendship became the foundation of everything. Boat rides. Lazy Sundays. Nights that became a little blurry and memories that became a little clearer with every retelling. Without either of them forcing it, Rob and Corinne became the person the other looked forward to seeing.
Then came the unexpected.
Rob received deployment orders.
And the timing couldn’t have been more complicated. Because somewhere along the way, without realizing exactly when it happened, Corinne had started falling for her new best friend.
Distance has a strange way of revealing things. It removes distractions. It quiets the noise. It leaves you with the simple truth of who you miss when they aren’t there.
After finding Rob’s deployment email, Corinne sent him the message she’d been carrying for a while. She told him what she had been feeling—that this wasn’t just friendship anymore.
And somewhere between Jacksonville Beach and the middle of the ocean, she realized her heart had already made its decision. She missed him. She cared about him.
The month-long deployment eventually ended, and Rob came home.
But coming home was only the beginning.
Their friendship was about to face the ultimate test—not just falling in love, but building a life together. Corinne met Rob’s 100-pound dog, met his family, and then climbed into a vehicle with him for a cross-country adventure from Idaho back to Jacksonville Beach.
For most people, a road trip like that might have been a test. But, for Rob and Corinne, it was all the proof they needed.
The miles passed too easily. The conversations never ran out. The laughter came naturally. And somewhere between states, highways, and gas station stops, it became obvious that this was no longer just a friendship.
Wherever they went, wherever they were, as long as they were together, it felt like home.
Rob and Corinne moved in together sooner than most people would expect.
But sometimes, when you know, you know.
And what some people might call “fast,” they called one of the best decisions they ever made.
Just one month shy of celebrating their first anniversary as boyfriend and girlfriend, Rob began his longest deployment yet.
But by then, distance wasn’t something they feared.
They had already learned that love doesn’t depend on proximity.
The two were completely, undeniably in love.
And thankfully, with a little help from today’s advanced technology, they kept connected through six long months apart. Messages, calls, and little pieces of everyday life crossed thousands of miles and reminded them that no ocean was big enough to change what they had built.
Halfway through the deployment, Corinne was lucky enough to join Rob in Italy for a trip neither of them would ever forget.
And then came the moment she never saw coming.
Through a lot of nervous energy and a lot of planning, Rob orchestrated the perfect proposal. So perfect that it may not have gone as Rob anticipated. Because, Corinne never saw it coming. Rob had found the perfect moment more than a few times on the trip. But, in true Corinne fashion she was either fast asleep as a passenger princess, booking their next excursion or obliviously snapping pictures of every street she walked down. At that point he just had to do it.
After more than a few moments of “shut up… is this actually happening?” Corinne said yes.
Yes to marrying her best friend.
Because in the end, that was always the story.
Not just two people who fell in love.
Two people who became friends first.
Two people who chose each other over and over again.
So now, we invite you to join us as we celebrate the next chapter of our story.
Come enjoy some cold beers and sing along to some classic rock.
We are so grateful to have you here as witnesses to the day our friendship becomes a marriage.
Love,
Robert and Corinne
